Coming Soon to 1st Avenue, a protected bike lane

Last month, working together with allies in the community and Transportation Alternatives East Side Committee, we crafted a positive resolution supporting protected bike lanes on the East Side, built community wide support, and turned out advocates at the critical community board meetings. Combined with our allies, we collected over 1000 hand-written letters of support for protected bike lanes all along the East Side. The resolution received broad support from speakers at the community board and passed by a vote of 38-1. We’ll need to continue building support as the Department of Transportation studies the different design options so that there is plenty of support when it comes time for Community Board 8 to approve the final design.
